Not in the Clear.. Just Yet

Lightning and thunder likely woke you up a time or two last night.. nasty storms pushed through the Mid State. Damaging wind and loud thunder seemed to be the greatest impact, especially along the KY/TN border.

Radar Update as of 8:31 am.. torrential downpours and lots of lightning for a good chunk of eastern Middle Tennessee. No severe storms as of now.

VIDEO LYNX

Temperatures are running warm in the low to mid 70s..

DMA Temps_Renaissance

A ‘Slight Risk’ (level 2 out of 5) for most of the Mid State in effect today. Damaging wind will be the greatest threat.SEVERERisk_DMAOnly

Ground is already saturated due to the recent rain. Put torrential downpours on top and that will lead to the potential for some Flash Flooding. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for southeastern Kentucky (areas under GREEN shade) until 8PM tonight.WATCHWARN_3

Dew points are HIGH. This effects us in more ways than one.

First, it will VERY humid (you knew that part). 🙂

The second, it will make high temperatures in the low 90s FEEL more like the upper 90s to even triple digits.

Lastly, it will tag team with the heat to help destabilize the atmosphere going into the afternoon.. creating conditions favorable for some stronger storms.DMA Dew PointsiCAST HeatIndex_OneTime

After today, count on a typical summer-like trend in the days ahead. Extreme heat, humidity & typical summer-like spotty storms in the afternoon.7 Day AM

Stormy at Times Tonight & On Tuesday

After a stormy Monday for many in Middle Tennessee, it looks like we’ll have a storm Tuesday as well!

Outdoors as of just before 7pm, Real Time Red Radar shows a strong thunderstorm with the potential to produce nickel size hail and torrential downpours over northern Cheatham County.  Scattered showers were also over southeastern Middle Tennessee.

VIDEO LYNX.png

Notice however that more storms lurk upstream over western Kentucky and Missouri.

SATRAD_3D.png

Those thunderstorms will enter Middle Tennessee and southwest Kentucky later tonight.  In advance, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued that remains in effect until 1am.

WATCHWARN_2

FUTURECAST shows how those storms will move through, in a couple of rounds.  Given the images below, don’t be surprised if you’re awoken overnight to heavy downpours, lightning, thunder, and some brief gusty wind.

A storm or two could be severe overnight (due to high wind), but the vast majority will be just strong or garden variety.

SEVERERisk_DMAOnly.png

Allow extra drive time in the morning if you’re able to to deal with slowdowns on the roads due to heavy rain that might be falling on your route.

Tomorrow, the spotty storms that we have develop could also become severe in some instances due to damaging wind.   By tomorrow evening, the weather will settle down quite a bit.

Watch Lisa Spencer tonight on News4 at 10pm.  She’ll have an updated view of the storms to our northwest as they approach your area.

Latest data came in and most of the Mid State now falls under a ‘Slight Risk’ (YELLOW– level 2 on a 1 to 5 scale for any storm to reach severe criteria). Areas under a ‘Marginal Risk’ (GREEN — level 1 on a 1 to 5 scale).SEVERERisk_DMAOnly

Umbrellas Handy this Week

Most of the Mid State dodges the rain this morning! The few spots that are seeing the rain, are getting hit hard with torrential downpours, especially in Kentucky. Those storms are non-severe and continue lifting north and east. Radar update (7:45am)..

The possibility of spotty storms are in store today and an isolated one could be severe with damaging wind and small hail as the greatest threats. Areas under the GREEN color are under a ‘Marginal Risk’ (level 1 on a 1 to 5 scale for any storm to reach severe criteria).

Stormy start to the new work week

Stormy weather continues across Middle TN for much of the upcoming work week.

We will see a few days with lesser amount of rain but no day looks completely rain free.
As it stands now – Monday and Wednesday look to be the rainiest days of the week.
Here’s a time breakdown of Monday.
Tuesday looks much drier with only an isolated chance for afternoon storms.
Due to the increase in sunshine and decrease in showers, temperatures will be allowed to soar!
Here’s the highs and Heat Index.

More Strong Thunderstorms Plus Building Heat

After a Saturday with damaging wind gusts and flash flooding for portions of the Mid State, today will be similar.  More severe weather is in the forecast.

As of 7am today, temperatures were in the 70s.

DMA Temps_Renaissance.png

It was very humid, with dew points also in the 70s.

DMA Dew Points.png

A few showers were exiting eastern Middle Tennessee.  Meanwhile, more showers and storms were approaching from the west.  As they crossed into the Mid State from West Tennessee, there were weakening.

VIDEO LYNX.png

This afternoon, spotty thunderstorms will develop.  The best rain chance however will arrive tonight from the northwest.  Some storms could become severe with damaging wind gusts.  The most likely area to get severe weather will be from Paris to Hopkinsville, to Clarksville, and Springfield.

SEVERERisk_DMAOnly

Highs today will be in the mid-upper 80s, so plan on plenty of heat & humidity to make it a good lake or pool type of day!  Just keep an eye to the sky for approaching thunderstorms.

iCAST TodaysHighs

Tomorrow, scattered storms will continue, off and on through the day.

Then, on Tuesday, the likelihood for rain will decrease as intense heat builds.  Mid 90s will be common then.

Wednesday will bring about another very good chance for a period of rain and thunderstorms.

Weekend Weather: Several Rounds of Thunderstorms

Several rounds of thunderstorms are expected this weekend.  Some storms could be severe with damaging wind gusts and torrential downpours.

Outside as of 9am on this Saturday, it’s variably cloudy and warm.  Sunnier spots are warmer than those that have been stuck in clouds all morning.

DMA Temps_Servpro.png

It’s muggy, but not off the charts humid.  Dew points are in the 60s.

DMA Dew Points.png

There’s a batch of strong-severe thunderstorms over northern Mississippi and southwest Tennessee, racing toward the east-northeast at 55 mph.

VIDEO LYNX.png

Through the morning, that complex of thunderstorms will impact primarily southern Middle Tennessee.  Later today, scattered thunderstorms will develop elsewhere.  Because of the weather pattern, any storms that pass through could have strong, if not damaging wind.  Wind gusts could even approach 70 mph with some storms!

SEVERERisk_DMAOnly.png

That means if you objects in the yard that could become airborne in gusty wind, you’ll want to secure them or bring them in if possible.  Patio umbrellas for example should be down when not in use.  Take a look at FUTURECAST for today.

Highs today will be in the 80s again.  That’ll make of our fourth straight day in then 80s, as opposed to the 90s.

iCAST TodaysHighs.png

This evening, thunderstorms will gradually move out to the east leaving most of us a mainly, if not completely, dry evening.

However, overnight or very early tomorrow another round of rain and thunderstorms will move in.  Expect brief heavy downpours with these storms.

Tomorrow afternoon, a third round of thunderstorms will develop for many.  Again, damaging wind gusts will be possible.

It’ll be a smidge hotter tomorrow, as temperatures climb to around 90 during the afternoon.

Down the road, the biggest story next week will be the return of searing heat.  Each day, temperatures will peak in the 90s.  On three days, we’ll have mid to even upper 90s in some cases.

7 Day AM2

Know that we’ll be monitoring the thunderstorms we expect in the Mid State all weekend.  We’ll provide live updates on News4 when warranted, as well as have updates via social media.
