May 28: Wet Week

The long holiday weekend is coming to a close…it was a hot and muggy weekend with some showers and thunderstorms scattered across the area. Today was no exception, the high reached 85 and it was sticky and wet from time to time. With the rain, the day ended with a rainbow for some.

Subtropical Storm Alberto is our next big weather maker, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday. The storm’s center made landfall today near Laguna Beach, Florida this afternoon. Here’s the latest timing with Futurecast.

Some storms could be strong to severe and with any tropical system weak tornadoes can spin up with little warning. The main concern is heavy rain leading to the potential for flooding. Generally 1-3″ of rain can be expected through Wednesday with local amounts even higher. A Flash Flood Watch goes into effect Tuesday 7am to Wednesday 7am.

An unsettled pattern sticks around for the entire week with more rain and thunderstorms each day. Highs will rise from near 80 Tuesday to near 90 on Friday, lows will be near 70.

After a wet week a beautiful summer-like weekend is ahead with plenty of sunshine and highs in the lower 90s both Saturday and Sunday. There are a few isolated thundershowers possible Sunday.

I’ll have an update on News4 at 10pm.
