Today you’ll probably step outside and wonder why the heck we’re under a 4WARN Weather Alert today…. because most of today will be partly sunny and very warm with temperatures near 80 degrees! But come later tonight, a band of strong to severe thunderstorms will pass throughout Middle Tennessee.
You’ll also notice the wind today… very gusty with winds 15-25 MPH… some gusts reaching up to 40 MPH! A Wind Advisory is in effect for most all of the midstate until 10:00 P.M.
Everyone will see unseasonably warm temps ranging from the mid 70s to low 80s:
That will play a part in fueling these storms heading our way. Here’s the time frame of when we’ll see the strong stuff (Storms moving west to east):
Most all of the midstate is under an Enhanced Risk (level 3 out of 5) but our far eastern and most southern counties will only see a Slight Risk (level 2 out of 5).
An isolated tornado and hail are possible with these storms, but I think the greatest threat will be the straight line winds. Damaging winds could topple trees, cause limbs to fall, and cause downed power lines. Watch out for strong winds from 6:00 P.M. until midnight tonight.
Right now is a good time to go ahead and download the News4 Weather App to your smartphone and tablet. It will send a push alert to your phone if you are in the direct path of a severe thunderstorm warning, let you access our live radar, and you can watch our meteorologists live on the air as we cover this weather.
Stay tuned on social media, too, as we keep you updated on-air and on the go.
