Happy first day of SPRING! ….. but don’t expect any warm weather today!
Despite what the calendar says, it’s actually going to be the coldest day this week!
(Ironic, huh?)
Temperatures have already been their warmest today– starting off in the 50s– but they’ll continue to drop throughout the day into the low 40s by 3 P.M.
Not only will you need to get your coat back out of the closet… you’ll need the umbrella, too! Rain showers are expected all afternoon. That rain will eventually change over into a rain/snow mix later tonight as the temperatures drop even more, near freezing.
***A Freeze Warning in effect for Middle TN from 1:00 AM to 10:00 AM Wednesday
***A Winter Weather Advisory in effect for the Plateau, some Southern KY and some northern TN counties from 10:00 PM tonight until 10:00 AM Wednesday.
That’s because all of the midstate will be either near, at, or below freezing later tonight:
Morning to afternoon showers will hang around until early evening… before the rain starts pushing off toward our eastern counties.
The precipitation will switch over to a rain/snow mix, before becoming full on snow, for areas east of I-65, but mainly the Upper Cumberland Plateau and some areas of southern Kentucky. A few northern counties in middle Tennessee could see a light dusting.
Some areas in the Plateau could see slick roads for the morning commute Wednesday.
I think when this is all said and done, some areas in the Plateau could get about an inch of accumulation. Most spots will only see a dusting to maybe half an inch.
Temperatures won’t be cold enough to hold that snow for most. However, very eastern areas like Crossville won’t even break out of the 30s for daytime highs, so some snow on the ground could be likely in the afternoon… but I think the sunshine will do its job to melt any leftover dusting away.
Despite Wednesday being cooler, we’ll see mostly sunny skies. The sunshine will stick around through Thursday before our next rain chances move in on Friday and into the weekend. Thunderstorms are possible through the weekend and into Monday, so stay tuned to News4 for updates on that.
