Happy Groundhog Day, everyone!
Well, the weather rodent himself– Punxsutawney Phil– has spoken. Six more weeks of winter. He saw his shadow this morning during the celebrations…. and as the old legend goes… more cold weather for us. (It is January, after all)
Today will definitely *feel* like winter here in the midstate– as our highs only barely make it above freezing.
However, it will *feel* even colder thanks to a strong wind chill. Northerly winds will bring in colder air from the north, making it feel like it’s in the 20s most all day.
We’re in for a slight warm-up this weekend, though. Although we’ll see a lot more clouds and some brief rain, it will feel nicer than today.
The next chance of rain moves in late Saturday night into Sunday morning. For a brief moment, the upper Cumberland Plateau and areas of Southern Kentucky could see some of that rain turn into a rain/snow mix as the temperatures drop. That will only last a little bit, then the rain pushes out of the midstate completely by midday.
Here’s the timeline:
The rain will clear out in time for any Sunday afternoon plans. We’ll be left with cloud cover, but temperatures will be in the low 50s! Nice!
I’ll be here on News 4 Saturday and Sunday morning with any updates to the forecast.
P.S. Did you get a chance to see the spectacular sunrise this morning? If not, check it out below 🙂
