A 4WARN Weather Alert is in effect for Friday for the threat of an approaching Winter Storm. I know you have heard about this by now. It’s so hard to get in that winter mode when it’s 69° in Nashville, that was the high. Tomorrow afternoon it will be about 40° colder. A Winter Storm Warning tomorrow for the northwest corner of Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. A Winter Weather Advisory for Nashville and points to the east tomorrow.
As a front moves toward Middle Tennessee, showers become more numerous. Temperatures will drop overnight into the day on Friday, rain will transition to freezing rain/sleet/snow mix before changing to all snow during the day on Friday.
Here is the latest timing of the winter mix with the latest Futurecast, the pink represents freezing rain and sleet and the blue represents snow:
Accumulating ice will pave way for slick roads and dangerous driving conditions. The worst will be in the northwest part of Middle Tennessee and Kentucky.
As of now, snow accumulations of 1″-2″ will be likely in general, on top of a coating of ice. Possible higher amounts are possible along the TN/KY line.
Most of the snow tapers off by Saturday morning. Sunshine returns Sunday, but below freezing temperatures remain until Monday afternoon. Another weaker system comes through Monday with a chance of a few snow showers.
Bitterly cold air will follow in the days to come. I’ll have an update on the approaching winter storm on News 4 at 10pm.
