Another bitterly cold night tonight in the teens. This morning the low dropped down to 14°. The high in Nashville only reached 36°, 11° below average for this time of year. This is the coldest since January 8 when the temperatures dropped to the single digits. Tonight the low will drop to 18 in Music City.
Friday pops back up above freezing in the afternoon, but that is the last day for a while. A weak southwest flow will help the temperature climb to near 40 in the afternoon. Clouds will increase on Friday in advance of the next front.
This weekend, more Arctic air slides into Middle Tennessee just in time for New Years celebrations.
Saturday a more northwest flow will allow an Arctic Front to slide in and set us up for a prolonged period of cold weather. Saturday will still reach 40°, but Sunday you will really feel the cold air. A few flurries are possible. No doubt it will bone chilling cold for outdoor celebrations for New Years.
The first day of the 2018 will be cold, only in the upper 20s during the afternoon.
Monday through Thursday of next week will remain below freezing with a mainly clear sky. In other words, plan on wearing warm winter gear each and every day for a while.
I’ll have an update tonight on News 4 at 10pm.
