Beautiful Saturday, Rain Sunday

Good morning and happy Saturday!

Despite our cold start to the morning, we are going to warm up quickly to an unseasonably warm day today! Highs will reach the mid-50s with lots of sunshine.

Enjoy the sun while you can… because this time tomorrow, rain will move into the midstate.

Here’s the timeline:

Unfortunately, rain will be sticking around with us for most of the 7-day forecast.

Make it a great day!

Well, Nashville’s version of the halcyon days of December is coming to an end with another fine day. We’re not exactly spoiled with such a nice stretch of weather this time of year, so it’s been quite enjoyable, to say the least. Jumping ahead just a little and presuming no measurable precipitation occurs by midnight, this has been the driest December (with 0.48″ month-to-date) since 1988, when only 0.16 fell through first 20 days and 16th-driest of the 146 Decembers on record. Impressively dry, but nowhere near the record, that was 16 times less the current amount (16 gotta be the number of the day, as it’s just popping up throughout this report of sorts). Since November 18, only 0.72 inches of rain has fallen (on just 2 days: Nov.30 and Dec.5), 5th-smallest amount over that span (again, assuming there’s no accumulation by midnight) and the least since 1962, when 0.62″ fell. Of course, it wouldn’t be so nice with the usual cloudiness around this time, but the skies have been refreshingly clear for most of the last four weeks. Through first 15 days of December, the accumulated sky cover was a modest 81, meaning an average 54% of the sky being covered on any given day, much more like late October rather than mid-December. The charts below provide the illustration:

OK, that’s enough typing for the day, till next time.
