December 12: Coldest of the Week

After a very cold and windy day, you’ll want to keep a warm winter coat handy this evening. The afternoon high reached 43°, but the high for the day actually occurred at 2AM when it reached 49°.

It was cold for the lighting of the Menorah tonight in downtown Nashville about 5:30pm, 35°.  Happy Hanukah!

A mainly clear sky and a northwesterly breeze will allow temperatures to fall to near the bone chilling mid 20s early Wednesday morning. Wind chills will be in the teens.  One footnote to this. I am expecting the winds to change from the northwest to the southwest tomorrow morning. The timing of this change will effect how cold it gets and when.  If the winds change overnight before dawn, it will likely not be as cold.

Sunshine returns Wednesday, which will help warm things up to average near 50° by the afternoon. Tomorrow will be the brightest day of the week until we get to Saturday. It will also be the windiest. Expect a strong southwest wind with gusts of 30-35 mph.

Thursday the next clipper comes through and drops temperatures once again, into the mid 40s.  We could even see some flurries. And  yet another system brings another surge of cold air on Friday too.

Saturday will be dry and mild and Sunday brings just a few spotty showers. That will be the first time it has rained since December 5.

I’ll have the latest on the forecast on News 4 at 10pm.
