Updates on Hurricane Irma and our Weekend Forecast

Welcome to Nashville, family! This was how our bonus room looked before I went down last night, greeting my sweet family as I woke up for work this morning around 1 AM. After a 24 hour trip from South Florida, mom, dad, grandma and grandpa made it safely to our home. What a peace of mind. With bumper to bumper traffic and a major gas shortage, sister and her family are stuck down there. Continued prayers…

Hurricane Irma is what prompted my parents flee.

Notice how LARGE this storm is — over 400 mile wide. West coast to east coast, Florida’s peninsula measures at just about 160 mph. There’s no question on how much or what part of Florida will be impacted, as the entire state is expected to get a significant impact. Southern parts could be catastrophic.

With max sustained winds at 155 mph, Irma has been downgraded to a category 4 hurricane. Irma continues pushing WNW AT 16 MPH with its eye just centered north of southern Cuba…daphne TROPICAL FORECAST WIND PARTICLES

Since Irma is not expected to make landfall before making it to the southern coast of Florida, there’s no weakening expected at this point. It’s just the science of the storm…water water = intensification/maintaining strength and land contact = weakening.

Saturday overnight into Sunday is when Irma makes landfall as a major hurricane, bringing life-threatening storm surge, wind and potential catastrophic conditions.daphne TROPICAL FORECAST WIND PARTICLES1

After making landfall, Irma is expected to weaken to a cat 2 storm right around central Florida…daphne TROPICAL FORECAST WIND PARTICLES3

Latest data point towards a westerly track cutting through Georgia before making an impact on Tennessee Monday late day into Tuesday. It is still a bit far out but the potential for flooding and some stronger storms is not out of question. Note: this latest shift was a drastic one from east to west (less than 24 hours a ago). We are still a bit far out so nothing is definite. One you’ll want to stay tuned for updates…daphne TROPICAL FORECAST WIND PARTICLES4

While Florida braces for a catastrophic hurricane, we are blessed with sunny skies, low humidity and a taste of fall through the entire weekend. Highs in the upper 70s/lower 80s and lows in the mid/upper 50s.DAPHNE_School_Day_Forecast

If you’re looking for some fun with the fam tonight, Touchdown Friday is a great option! The weather could not be more perfect for football. 74 degrees right around kickoff time. Clear skies will be the cherry on top. You may want to grab a light jacket for the end of the game, as temperatures drop into the lower 60s.DT FOOTBALL SCOREBOARD4

Here’s a peak at the stretch ahead. Plenty of sunshine before unsettled weather returns by late on Monday. WSMV 7 Day AM

Get outside and ENJOY the beauty!
