Part of this weekend looks very good! The other part — today — not so much (if you want to enjoy the outdoors). Count on scattered storms at times today. Tomorrow will bring better weather for enjoying the pool or lake!
Outdoors as of 9:30am, scattered storms are widespread along the I-40 corridor in and east of Nashville. Northwest along I-24 out of Nashville, it’s also wet.
The storms out there are sliding southward very gradually. Because storms aren’t moving much, count on ponding on roads and brief flash flooding. So far today there have been several Flood Advisories and one Flash Flood Warning.
It’s mild, in the 70s.
It’s VERY muggy, too. Dew points are also in the 70s.
The storms this morning are in response to a cold front settling into the Mid State. As that front pushes farther southward this afternoon, the best rain chance will shift into southern Middle Tennessee. FUTURECAST is doing a terrible job this morning at depicting the rain and how it evolve today, so I’m not going to allow you to waste your time looking at it. Just again remember that the best rain chance will shift to our southern counties this afternoon.
Here’s your rain chance by area for today.
This shows the same, but by time.
Severe thunderstorms are unlikely today (tornadoes, 1″ diameter or larger hail, and/or 58+mph wind). Again, localized flooding is more likely.
Tomorrow looks like a much better day for doing things outdoors, with only a 10% rain chance over southern Middle Tennessee.
SO…if you wanted to spend some time by the pool or lake today, choose tomorrow if you can. If today’s your only option, then don’t take any unnecessary chances and remain weather aware through the FREE 4WARN Weather and WSMV apps.
You can access Channel 4’s 4WARN Live Doppler on both of the apps listed above.
Daphne DeLoren’s back on Channel 4 News tonight at 5pm with the latest on these storms. She and I will have you covered today on social media and via wsmv.com.
