Winter’s chill returned in a big way today. The afternoon high only reached 44 degrees, below the average high for February. We started off with 32 degrees this morning, but it would have been colder, had it not been for a persistent blanket of clouds this morning. There were just enough clouds tonight to make a beautiful sunset.
Tonight fewer clouds are expected so temperatures will tumble to near 20 degrees overnight. There will be some teens in the outlying areas. Tomorrow an area of high pressure will shift east of Tennessee, that will give us a south wind and warmer temperatures.
Tomorrow night a weak disturbance will bring some showers late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Most of the rain will fall while most of us are asleep.
The south wind will remain strong and that means temperatures will continue to rise to above average temperatures Sunday to Tuesday.
A more significant chance of rain returns on Monday as a front approaches. Winds really pick up by Tuesday. A low level jet develops, that with the warmer air and instability will set the stage for possible strong to severe thunderstorms Tuesday. The greatest threat will be high wind and hail.
Looking farther ahead there is a chance of a winter mix on Thursday. Dan Thomas and Daphne DeLoren will keep you updated on that scenario this weekend.
