Weekend Weather and Happenings

Wow, what a beautiful start to the weekend.  There are some special Christmas traditions happening this weekend and the weather will cooperate for most of them. Much needed rain will return late Saturday and into Sunday.

The upper ridge that is providing today’s sun won’t last long.  A trough of low pressure will move east from the plains states and Midwest. A few light showers could slip in Saturday afternoon, but it’s much more likely later Saturday night when the rain becomes more moderate. Showers continue through Sunday.  And get this, some cold air aloft Sunday morning could mix a few light snow showers with the rain across the northern Cumberland Plateau. Sunday night in to Monday will be mainly dry.

An area of low pressure pushes into the Middle Tennessee late Monday into Tuesday. The atmosphere will become more unstable with some wind shear.  That means isolated thunderstorms will be possible late Monday into early Tuesday. They do not look severe at this time. Tuesday the rain decreases.  Some much colder air arrives late next week.

T metro Christmas Tree Lighting tonight at 6PM at Public Square in downtown Nashville. That is free of course…also free is the bright Venus and waxing Moon in the night sky. Look up after sunset.  Mars and Mercury may also be visible.  Look for Mercury just below the moon right at dusk.  Mars will be visible as late as 9-10pm just above the Moon.

Christmas Parades will be all around Middle Tennessee this weekend.
