Showers, Storms and a Wind Advisory in Full Swing Across Middle TN

Clouds blanket the entire region tonight and it’s little blinker light heads up for what’s to come.

A strong area of low pressure currently over the plains continues pushing eastward, inching closer to Middle TN as I type here (7:59 pm). This is great news for our latest drought situation. With an 8.26″ deficit for the year and 3.48″deficit for November, we will take every rain drop we can squish out of it. Gusty winds will be a key player, even before the rain arrives. A WIND ADVISORY is in effect starting at 9 am Monday through midnight. Southerly winds will progressively pick up overnight and throughout the day on Monday — gusting as high as 45 mph at times. You’ll want to secure any loose decorations or furniture out on the lawn. Driving a high profile vehicle will be challenging, especially during the second half of the day…

Light, moderate and heavy rain can all be expected with this system. Some of the thunderstorms could be strong to potentially severe but odds of severe thunderstorms are not very high. The Storm Prediction Center has western Middle TN under a ‘Marginal Risk’ (1 out of a 1 to 5 scale) for any storm to reach severe criteria. The greater threat remains southwest of us, closer over Louisiana. Check it out..

Once this system pushes through, a secondary system arrives by Tuesday night into Wednesday, bring another round of showers and thunderstorms. The best part? More rain! Yahoo! Here’s how much I’m expecting over the course of the next three days. When all is said and done, 1.5 – 2.5″ for areas under the PURPLE and 2.5″ – 4″ for areas under the RED. This will significantly help the latest drought but it won’t be a complete save.

Here’s a look ahead and what I’ll be timing out coming up on channel 4 at 10:30 pm (or later due to football delays)…
