After a delightful day, the weather could not be more perfect for a Saturday night.
Temperatures are running in the upper 50 to middle 60-degree range (7:45 pm as I type here).
Skies are clear and the moon is shining bright. I just stepped outside of the station to get a glimpse for myself. With clear skies comes cooler temperatures tonight — running in the upper 40s. Sunday looks very similar to today — dry, sunny and seasonable middle 70s. You may notice a breeze kick in at times and that’s all thanks to Hurricane Matthew, which I’ll get back to in just a minute.
After Sunday, not much change! You’ll notice a gradual warm up into the lower 80s by Wednesday but it’s brief. Middle and upper 70-s return quickly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. As far as precipitation…not a whole lot! A passing weak cold front brings a 20% chance for a few spotty rain showers on Thursday. The rest of the week is in the clear. Here’s a peak ahead…
Now back to Hurricane Mathew…
With maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, Mathew is currently a category 1 hurricane riding up the coast of North Carolina east-northeast at 13 mph.
Dangerous storm surge and major flooding continue to be the main threats. Areas under the PINK color are still under a Hurricane Warning while areas further north, under the ORANGE color are under a Tropical Storm Warning. Good news — Mathew is expected to ride out, away from land on Sunday afternoon and continue to weaken.
I’ll have updates on our workweek ahead plus Hurricane Mathew coming up on channel 4 at 10 tonight.
