The cold front swept across Middle Tennessee today bringing in the much anticipated seasonal temperatures. Today’s high was 16 degrees cooler than yesterday’s high of 94. That 94 marked the 86th day of 90 plus temperatures this year. It looks like that will be the last of the 90s for 2016…bye bye.
Today’s 78 is the average temperature for this time of the year. This cooler air will stick around this week. Temperatures are in the 60s right now, they will continue to fall into the 50s in Nashville by dawn. Some spots will drop into the cool crisp 40s. Jackets will be coming out of the closet in the morning.
An area of high pressure will build in at the surface tomorrow making for a fantastic day with plenty of sunshine, cooler air and less humidity. The mild temperatures will continue this week, but some showers will slip back into the forecast. A few upper level disturbances will move across the area and trigger a few showers particularly along the Cumberland Plateau. The increase in cloud cover will even hold the temperatures down a little lower.
Last weekend was the first weekend of Fall, but it didn’t feel like it. This weekend will really feel like Autumn, more sunshine with highs in the upper 70s to near 80.
A couple of treats in the sky this week. Early tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, the waning crescent Moon will be near the star Regulus in the eastern sky. Both will be visible about an hour before sunrise. Mercury will appear low on the horizon.
Wednesday evening, the International Space Station will fly over. Hopefully the sky will be clear enough to see it. It will pass at a good time and high altitude.
