Ready or Not, Weekend Storms Are on the Way

TGIF sunshine kick starts our last day of extreme heat across Middle Tennessee.

Radiant skies accompany a smooth sailing radar update (8:35 AM) to match…

Here’s the 3 main weather headlines you need to know:

Today will be hot…very hot! It is the last day temperatures will cook into the lower 90s which will make it our fifth day of above 90-degree days so far this month.

Factoring in another round of muggy, we’re talking middle to upper 90-degree ‘feels like’ temperatures.

Perfect day for one of these…

Besides a few spotty afternoon storms, today and tonight will be mainly dry. High school football is looking fantastic (in terms of a dry forecast). Kickoff will still be hot and it will still feel muggy out there…

The better chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms arrives with an approaching frontal boundary on Saturday.

Let’s check in with Futurecast for timing…

Morning to early afternoon will be your best bet to get any outdoor chores or errands out of the way…without any hassle from Mother Nature that is. First batch arrives north of I-40 and west of I-24 right around lunch time.

As the cold front continues pushing south and east, so will the thundershowers…

Heavy downpours and frequent lightning can be expected with some of the stronger storms. Storm Prediction Center has issued a ‘Marginal Risk’ for storms to reach severe criteria (1 out of a 1 to 5 scale) for northern Middle Tennessee.

By dinner time, most of the activity jogs into eastern Middle TN, east of I-65…

Showers and storms make a great escape out of Tennessee by around 10:00 PM.

With all this action on the way, now is the time to plan ahead and download our FREE ‘WSMV WX’ app. Any severe storms, watches, warnings, you name it — pops up and alerts you right on your phone.

The timing is kind of yucky but this is GOOD news for those ready for a weather change. Cooler, drier, and more refreshing air behind this passing front works its way in…as soon as Sunday! Maybe movie and popcorn on Saturday then save the outdoor plans for Sunday? How about that?

Here’s a peak ahead to your 7-Day forecast.

I’ll have the full timing of these storms on channel 4 at noon today. Be sure to join Chief Meteorologist Lisa Spencer for any updates at 4, 5, 6 and 10 tonight!
