The images from Louisiana are heartbreaking. The flooding is one of the worst in U.S. history. As of this writing at least 11 people have died and over 40,000 homes have been impacted. A stream of moisture continues to move across the area causing even more flooding.
This same system is having an impact on the weather here. That is the reason why the on and off rain pattern is staying in our forecast. At the surface a front is slowly drifting across Middle Tennessee. Right now the moisture is concentrated in West Tennessee and the northwest corner of the mid state. The front will drift eastward some more, but it does look like most of the rain will be concentrated west of I-65. The front should wash out on Thursday but it will be followed by disturbances that will ride through Middle Tennessee.
So this is not a wash out event, but unsettled pattern that will keep a chance or rain and thunderstorms in the area through the weekend. The best advise is to keep the wet weather gear nearby. I wouldn’t cancel any outdoors plans, but I would have a back up plan ready.
If you are ready for a change…many are, there is a switch up coming. A front should move in on Sunday, leaving behind cooler and drier weather for Monday through Wednesday of next week.
I’ll have an update on Channel 4 News at 10pm (after the Olympics)
