Dangerous Heat!

The heat continues to escalate…now into the danger zone. A Heat Advisory will be in effect starting at 11AM Friday and continuing through Saturday at 8PM.  This means we should expect heat index values of 100 to 110 degrees.

High pressure is settling in across the middle of the country and that’s the reason for the excessive heat. The humidity is no doubt a part of this scenario so that’s going to have us all  looking for ways to stay cool.

The high today reached 97 degrees, just 3 degrees shy of the record highs of 100.  It’s been 4 years since Nashville has reached 100 degrees.

We will come very close tomorrow and Saturday with afternoon highs of 99 degrees in the forecast.  Very little rain is expected over the next few days..just spotty showers tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.  Monday does bring a better chance of rain.  That will be the case for the first few days of next week.  As a result the temperatures will drop a few degrees back to the low 90s…yes still hot and humid. So not much heat relief is coming.

Let’s get through this together.  Drink plenty of water. If possible stay inside as much as possible or at least try to get outdoor work done early. Keep a close eye on children, elderly and pets.  Please don’t leave them in the car, even for a few minutes.  19 children have already died this year in hot cars nationwide.

I’ll have an update tonight on Channel 4 News at 10pm.
