Scorching Hot Weekend

Surely by now you have gotten the message.  We’ve been talking about it for days…this weekend is going to be HOT!!!!.  The ridge that has been out west cooking those folks is moving in.  Tomorrow will likely be our warmest day.  The humidity starts to increase and it will really be steamy by Sunday and Monday.

With the heat continuing to build the ground level ozone (the bad kind of ozone) is also building, so the Air Quality Alert has been extended through Saturday.  This means those with breathing problems like asthma should stay inside.

This weekend is full of outdoor opportunities.  No doubt by now you have heard about the two huge outdoor music festivals…CMAFest and Bonnaroo.  Anyone attending either should be prepared with hot weather essentials.

Since I know, not everyone is headed to downtown or the Farm in Manchester, there is another freebie.  It’s free fishing day in the state.  Anyone can fish without a fishing license in our state parks.  Tomorrow morning the Fairview Youth Fishing Rodeo will take place at Veterans Park on Evergreen Lake.  It’s starts at 7am.  It will be near 70 degrees at that time.

Free Fishing Day in Tennessee for Residents and Visitors

Tennessee’s annual Free Fishing Day is a great way for families to get out and enjoy fishing together on one of the many public waters across the state.

I did a quick google search and found that there are fishing rodeos in many counties, so if your are interested check for your area.  There’s one at Shelby Park in Davidson County.  There early too, so you can get out before it gets to hot.

If you do want to brave the heat for a little while, this may be the perfect weekend to go to one of the popular parks around the area.  So many people will be at CMAfest and Bonnaroo, that the crowds could be down.  You can even here music at Musicians Corner in Centennial Park.

Please remember your pets this weekend. They need plenty of water and shade. Remember, the sun moves (really the Earth does, but you know what I mean) a pet confined in a shady area in the morning can be in the hot sun later in the day.

Whatever you do, please don’t leave pets in the car even with the window cracked.

Of course, I shouldn’t have to say this but I will never leave children in the car, even for a few minutes.  Check the backseat before you get out.

Have a great weekend and stay cool,

Lisa Spencer
